The Reformed Church in Füzér was built in 1785 and is still the place of worship services of the local Reformed community. The main value of the building is the painted wooden coffered ceiling decorated with plant and geometric patterns, which was finished in 1832 by Mihály Pandák. The church with the castle in the background was captured by our famous painter Antal Ligeti in 1854. The painting faithfully reflects the former state of the Reformed Church.
In the 17th century, mostly Catholics lived in Füzér, thanks to György Csepellényi’s work on recatholization. After the execution of Csepellényi, the Roman Catholic Church of Füzér fell into the hands of the Reformed people in 1674, and 63 years later, “in 1737 Ferenc Dessewffy reoccupied it and handed it over to the Catholics”.
